Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 11 October 2026
1. About these terms
These terms and conditions ("Terms") govern your use of searchwakefield.co.uk (the "Site"), a local guide to businesses, events, sport and heritage in Wakefield and the surrounding area. In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" mean the operator of Search Wakefield; "you" means anyone using the Site, including a business that submits or claims a listing.
By using the Site you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
2. Using the Site
The Site is provided for personal and business information purposes. You agree not to misuse it, including by scraping it at a rate that affects its performance, attempting to gain unauthorised access, introducing malicious code, or using it to send unsolicited marketing.
We may change, suspend or withdraw any part of the Site at any time without notice.
3. Accuracy of information
Listings, opening hours, event details, fixtures and results come from public sources, third-party feeds and information supplied by businesses. We work to keep them accurate and up to date, but we cannot guarantee that they are complete, correct or current. Please check details directly with the business, venue, club or ticket seller before you travel or buy.
4. Business listings, the free period and fees
This section applies to businesses and organisations that submit a listing to us or claim an existing one.
- Eligibility. Any business or organisation that operates in, or serves, the Wakefield district may ask us to publish, claim or update its listing.
- Free listing for 6 months. A business listing is free for the first six (6) months from the date the listing is first published at the business's request, or claimed by the business, whichever is earlier (the "Free Period").
- Fee after the Free Period. After the Free Period ends, continued listing and any enhanced features are subject to the fee agreed between the business and us in writing (the "Agreed Fee"), payable at the intervals set out in that agreement.
- Notice. We will contact the business using the details it gave us at least 30 days before the Free Period ends, to explain the Agreed Fee and how to continue. No fee is charged unless the business has agreed to it.
- If a fee is not agreed or paid. If the business does not agree the fee, or an invoice remains unpaid after we have reminded the business, we may remove the listing or reduce it to basic publicly available information. The business can ask us to remove or correct its listing at any time.
- Basic public information. We may display basic factual information about a business that is already publicly available (for example name, address, category and website) without charge and without the business having requested it. Any business may ask us to correct or remove that information by emailing us at hello@searchwakefield.co.uk.
- Payment. Unless agreed otherwise, invoices are payable within 14 days. Fees are stated exclusive of VAT, which is added where applicable. Fees are not refundable except as required by law or as set out in the agreement. We will give at least 30 days' notice of any change to the Agreed Fee.
- Your responsibilities. You must be authorised to act for the business, provide accurate and lawful information, and keep it up to date. You must not post anything misleading, offensive or that infringes anyone's rights.
- No guarantee. A listing does not guarantee any particular number of visitors, enquiries or sales, or any ranking or position on the Site.
5. Events and tickets
Event listings link directly to the organiser, venue or ticket seller. We are not the seller or organiser, we are not a party to any purchase or booking you make, and we are not responsible for events being changed, rescheduled or cancelled. Prices and availability are shown as supplied and may change. Any contract you make is with the seller and is subject to their terms.
6. Sport, fixtures and results
Fixtures, results and team information are provided for general interest, sourced from third-party data providers and club websites, and may be delayed or incomplete. Club names, crests and player images belong to their respective owners and are used to identify and describe those clubs. We are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, any club or league unless we say so.
7. Content you send us
If you send us text, images, event details or other material (for example through the contact form), you confirm that you have the right to do so and you grant us a free, non-exclusive, worldwide licence to publish, edit and display it on the Site in connection with the Site's purpose. You remain the owner of your material and can ask us to remove it at any time.
8. Intellectual property
The Site's design, branding, text and software are owned by or licensed to us and are protected by intellectual property laws. Map and place data is © OpenStreetMap contributors and available under the Open Database Licence. Other third-party content remains the property of its owners. You may view and print pages for your own personal use, but must not otherwise copy or reuse our content without permission. See our Data sources and credits page.
9. Links and third-party content
The Site contains links to, and may embed content from, third-party websites such as ticket sellers, club websites, YouTube, Facebook and maps. We do not control those sites and are not responsible for their content, availability or privacy practices. Embedded third-party content is only loaded after you choose to load it.
10. Our liability
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or any liability that cannot be excluded by law. Subject to that, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of, or reliance on, the Site or any third-party site or seller linked from it, including indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit or loss of business. The Site is provided "as is" and "as available".
11. Privacy and cookies
How we use personal information is explained in our Privacy Policy, and how we use cookies in our Cookie Policy.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. Changes to the fee terms that affect an existing agreement will not apply to that agreement until the notice period in section 4 has passed.
13. Governing law and contact
These Terms and any dispute arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, although consumers in Scotland or Northern Ireland may also bring proceedings in their home courts.
