Wakefield Trinity
The club
From Holy Trinity Church to Grand Final champions
Wakefield Trinity was formed in 1873 by a group of young men from Holy Trinity Church. The club was one of the 22 founder members of the Northern Union in 1895, the breakaway that created rugby league, and today plays in Super League.
In October 2026 Trinity won the Super League Grand Final for the first time, beating Warrington Wolves 23-10 at Old Trafford, and became only the sixth club ever to lift the trophy.
The club's earlier golden era came in the 1960s, with Challenge Cup wins at Wembley in 1960, 1962 and 1963, followed by league championships in 1966-67 and 1967-68. Centre Neil Fox, who scored a record 6,220 points in a 23-year career, 19 of them with Wakefield, is the club's most celebrated player.
